My Home Cows

A brown-and-white cow fills the right of the canvas, turned to meet the viewer straight on, its long pale horns sweeping up against a deep bottle-green ground. Keerthi renders the animal with the attention usually reserved for a human sitter: the wet black muzzle, the soft brown patches bleeding into white, the tender fold of the ears.

A thin braided halter loops over the face and drops in a single slack line, the only sign of ownership. The flat green void gives the beast nowhere to stand, so the portrait reads as both affectionate and strangely unmoored, a familiar creature lifted out of its field.
