A mother cradles a sleeping child against her, her own hand lifted to her cheek as she gazes down. The charcoal is broad and emotive, the contours brushed in with thick, smudged strokes rather than fine line.

Her downcast eyes, the bindi and nose stud, and the long fall of hair are set down swiftly, while the child's shaven head and slack limbs are massed in softer grey. Loosely finished at the edges, it holds the tenderness of the moment more than any surface polish.
