A single weathered lotus pod stands on its dark stem against a flat, restful field of pale green. The head has dried to grey, its thick lips curling around deep sockets that hold pale rounded seeds ringed with warm amber shadow.

A few withered rootlets straggle from beneath the crown. Painted with quiet realism and set on the plain green ground, the spent pod becomes a small meditation on ripeness and decay at the pond's end of season.
