Dewdrops and Grasshoppers

One enormous lily pad fills nearly the whole of this large canvas, its veined green surface strewn with water droplets of every size. The largest beads become clear glass lenses, each reflecting and refracting the pond and sky so that whole miniature landscapes float on the leaf.

The pad is set against a flat field of hot magenta-pink. At its margins two grasshoppers, painted with exacting realism, perch on the coloured ground. Scale, precision and the shock of the pink lift a close nature study into something monumental.
