A warm, loosely painted kitchen group: a round terracotta teapot behind, a tilted earthenware bowl at the left, a teal glass vessel lying on its side, and a crisp savoy cabbage set among turnips and a single carrot in front.

The handling is fluid and transparent, closer to watercolour in feel, with the crinkled cabbage leaves picked out in bright greens against cool grey-blue washes behind. The painter enjoys the range of surfaces, glazed clay, glass and vegetable, and keeps the light soft and the palette warm and fresh.
