Kerosene Lantern at Rest

A green metal hurricane lantern stands on its base, its wire carrying-loop swung open and its glass chimney knocked askew. The painter sets it against a plain, pale wall so that its long shadow becomes half the composition.

The interest is entirely in surface and light: the enamelled teal metal, the transparent glass with its trapped highlights, and the warm ochre tabletop that catches a soft reflection beneath. It is a modest household object treated with close, patient observation.
