Rendered almost entirely in charcoal, the artist raises a small cup to her lips, her form drawn in nervy, repeated contour lines that leave the underdrawing openly on show. Sketched leaves and stems curl at either side of her.

Broad bands of primary colour cross the sheet - a horizontal magenta stripe, a cyan column, a yellow field - laid flat over the monochrome figure like a test pattern. The piece reads as a study in which a quiet, realist gesture is interrupted and re-composed by hard, geometric colour.
